VETERAN INFORMATION
If you are a honorably discharged veteran of the United States military and served during the eras of military conflict listed below, Honor Flight of Southern Colorado would like to recognize you, your service, and your sacrifice by offering you an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC to visit some of our Nation’s memorials and monuments.
The eras include veterans who served during:
* World War II
* Korean War
* Vietnam War
* Any veteran of any era who is suffering from a terminal illness.
As long as you served between the years 1939 - 1976; active duty, guard and reserves you are eligible to go on an Honor Flight.
Service in the actual conflict overseas is not required to be eligible.
Honor Flight of Southern Colorado will also provide trained Guardians to escort our veterans and offer assistance for a safe, memorable, and rewarding journey. Veterans can choose to bring a family member or friend as their Guardian in accordance with the Guardian guidelines below. Honor Flight can also assign a volunteer Guardian if needed.
While not required to go on an honor flight, we encourage veterans to be up to date on COVID and flu vaccines.
Currently we have an 18 - 24 month waiting list for flights.
WWII and Korea era veterans are given priority
Vietnam era veterans are assigned to flights based on their application dates.
Please use the Veteran Application button below to fill out the online application.
GUARDIAN INFORMATION
If you wish to be a Honor Flight of Southern Colorado Guardian, THANK YOU! These trips would not be possible without your help!
Guardians escort and assist our veterans, traveling with them to and from the Washington DC area. Physical requirements require Guardians be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be capable of pushing a wheelchair for several miles as we walk between memorials. Guardians pay a $1,000 fee that covers all of their expenses (airfare, lodging, meals, ground transportation and Honor Flight clothing). The guardian fee is due at the pre-flight luncheon (2 weeks before the flight)
Per our organizational rules, spouses cannot travel with their veteran as Guardians unless they are between the ages of 18-70 years old and the primary caregiver for a veteran with significant medical issues. If another family member would like to serve as a Guardian for their veteran, we encourage them to apply. We can allow only one Guardian per veteran.
Please use the Guardian application button below to fill put the online application.
VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
Without the help and support of our volunteers, there is no way that we can provide the opportunity to fly our heroes to Washington DC to see the memorials created in their honor.
Examples of volunteer positions include:
* Create a boisterous send off for our heroes at the pre-flight breakfast in Colorado Springs
* Welcome home our heroes at the end of their mission with a post-flight reception
* Help us keep our database current by entering and updating veteran and guardian data.
* Help us before a flight by putting together clothing packets or sorting letters for Mail Call.
* Be part of a fundraiser committee
